Improvising Ear Training app for iPhone and iPad

One of the most important skills you need to develop for improvising or playing by ear is to know the note’s sounds. Like when someone call you in your phone and based on a simple “Hi” you hear from the other side of the line you are able to identify whom you are talking to, the same way knowing the sounding of your notes and where they are in your instrument is crucial for a great performance.
Based on this assumption, a good way to practice it is playing a note in the piano and finding it in your instrument, but that became easy because you know the note you are playing or otherwise you have to have someone helping you out. In other hand you cannot take the piano with you all the time, right? So now you will not waste precious free time to practicing your skills when, waiting in the line, waiting the bus or for a friend to arrive for a coffee, you can practice almost anywhere.
How it works?
This app will choose a random note and played back to you, you can either find the note in your instrument and answer in the keypad or simply answer in the keypad as well if you do not have your instrument with you.
You choose your instrument key for accuracy:
- Concert Key: will play Piano sounds from C4 to B6
- Bb Key: will play Tenor sax sounds from Bb2 to F#5
- Eb Key: will play Alto sax sounds from Bb2 to F#5.
Additionally you can choose:
- How many times the app will play the note back to you (from 1 to 3);
- What is the duration of each note (1 to 4 sec.);
Also the app has two levels of difficulty:
- EASY: where the app will highlight three notes as “clues “ (one of them will be the played note); it will help the beginners getting the correct notes and sounds;
- HARD: the app will show you no “clues”, a little challenge for more seasoned players.
As a final feature this app has a score where you can follow your progress (it will be reset every time you close the app);
Give it a try! Do not neglect this very important skill and happy practicing.
